Being productive on a Monday can be hard. Same with Tuesdays. Even Wednesdays too.

…actually, we take that back. Every day of the work week can have its slumps in productivity. You may find yourself staring at the pile of work on your desk asking yourself, “How will this get done?” Well, good news is, we have some tips to help you be more productive in the workplace… six to be exact:

CREATE TO-DO LISTS

Let’s take a look at that pile of work staring you in the face. First off – as a note of encouragement – you WILL get through it. But for starters, you’ll need to prioritize what to get done first by creating a to-do list. Depending on what line of work you’re in, your projects may be larger or smaller. If the smaller items are easy to complete, get those projects done and out of the way. For those larger projects, make sure you’re breaking them down into bite-sized portions. That way, you can work your way through each item to finally complete your projects.

MAKE DEADLINES FOR YOURSELF

If you don’t have a personal deadline, will you really get your projects done in a timely manner? Maybe. But it will be challenging without setting a deadline. Deadlines are crucial for productivity. Not just for your employees – but for yourself too. By setting a personal deadline for each item on your to-do list, you’ll feel the pressure to get them done promptly.

DON’T MULTI-TASK

Some people pride themselves on their multi-tasking abilities. While that’s great, spreading your focus too thin can be dangerous. Multi-tasking means you are likely not focusing 100% on the tasks at hand, limiting your attention to detail. By working on four or five different projects all at once, you may only be devoting 25% of your attention (or less) to each one. If important details are overlooked on your end, it could cause issues further down the line with clients or other co-workers. Stick to focusing on one item at a time. It will all get done. Guaranteed.

EXERCISE DURING THE WORK DAY

Endorphins. They’re magical. If you find yourself grumpily trudging through the day, you might need to take a break and go work out. Exercising during the day can take your mind off of the mounds of work you have to get done, and transform your negative mindset into a productive one. By regularly exercising during the work week, you’ll find yourself progressing through your to-do lists more efficiently.

SHOW YOUR WORK TO COWORKERS

If you’ve been working on a project for a long time, there may be an instance where you feel stuck and unproductive. If this happens, it may be time to step away for a moment. Ask a coworker or two to review what you’ve been working on. It will help you gain a new perspective, aiding in the progression of the work you once felt stuck on.

REWARD YOURSELF EVERY SO OFTEN

Did you make it through that pile of work on your desk?! AWESOME. We are so proud of you! If you haven’t completely made it through your pile yet, you should still be proud of yourself because you’re being productive! What once looked like it would take an eternity to complete, is now done. So reward yourself for your milestones. Jump for joy. Take a walk. Grab a coffee. Go out to lunch.
